In light of the potential International Longshoremen Association (ILA) strike on October 1st, there may be disruptions at U.S. East Coast and Gulf Coast ports. Consequently, ocean carriers such as CMA CGM, EMC, HMM, and YML plan to implement an “Emergency Port Congestion Surcharge” starting as early as October 11th. This surcharge could be as high as $3,000 per container for shipments arriving at USEC and USGC ports.
Additionally, CMA CGM will apply this surcharge to exports from these ports, with fees reaching up to $2,000 per container. This temporary charge is intended to cover the additional expenses resulting from strike-related disruptions or labor unrest.
We will keep you informed about any potential impact on your shipments. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.
