Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge collapses after cargo ship collision

On Tuesday morning, the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, MD collapsed following a collision with a large container ship. The incident occurred when a support column of the bridge was struck by the cargo ship Dali, a 984-foot vessel. Moments before the collision, the Dali had notified authorities of “power issues” and subsequently impacted a bridge support at a speed of nine miles per hour. In response, all vessels, including cruise ships, are being rerouted from the Port of Baltimore as authorities conduct search and rescue operations and continue their investigations.
